Our Committee of Management

Bryce Morrison
Ko Bryce Bennett Kakuere Morrison toku ingoa, ko au te mokopuna o Merekorama Rangiwhiua Morrison no Ngati Wahiao.Tumatawera. Merekorama was a member of the first trust formed in 1961 for Owhatiura South 5. T Retimana and W Winiata and one other were also members . I was shoulder tapped back in 2009 by Hiwinui Heke, Boydie Pirika and my father to stand for the soon to be formed, new Committee. The Incorporation had been in recess for almost 14 years and the koeke wanted to elect a new committee . This was eventually realised, and I along with others formed the new look Board for OS5. For me this journey has gone full circle, due to a visit to the block with my kuia in the late 80s while I was home on leave. Her words to me still resonate .. “ Moko, come home after you finish your career and build something on this land for us” I didn’t give her words much thought back then, however the memories came flooding back when I was elected to this Board. I am here now, we have an awesome committed group, united and focused on what an honour it is to be part of the renaissance of the land. I give thanks to all our past committee members, whom I was privileged to work and learn from , their knowledge and hītori cannot be replaced, however we have managed to capture enough for us to develop our Journal. Our vision from the beginning was “to leave a secure and enduring legacy for our mokopuna “ In turn, I with your Committee will give our all to turn their vision into a reality. Nga mihi Bryce

Rawiri Bhana
Ko Rawiri Hira Tamarangi Bhana tōku ingoa. I whakapapa to the whenua through the Paora line of Ngāti Whaeakura, through the land shareholdings of our kuia Te Tai and her hoa rangatira Te Kowhai Tarahina. My mum’s dad, Koro Ambo Te Kowhai, and his sister Nanny Maxine Rennie were both members of the Committee of Management, and my koroua whom I was named after, Rawiri Te Kamu (Bill Allen), was an inaugural member of the CoM. Our whānau have a long history of service to this whenua and to the Incorporation. I am known for my guiding principle of “Mokopuna Decisions” – everything I do is with the next generations in mind. My three mokopuna are my greatest joy and motivation. Through this journey with OS5, I have also discovered a deep passion and love for construction and whenua development, and I am committed to using that passion to contribute to the future of our whenua and our people.

Manuariki Tini
Na Paroa Ka whanau mai ko Te Kowhai Tarahina Nana ko Kereti Te Kowhai Ka puta ko Tuhimata Kereti Nana ko Ngawara Bradshaw, ano hoki ko tona tuakana, a Tamaku Whiti Ka heke iho mai ki tōku māmā, a Maria Tini Kia puta ko au, Manuariki Tini. I have been part of the Committee of Management for Owhatiura South 5 Incorporation since 2016. Alongside my cousin, we stepped into the two available positions when our whanaunga Te Kapua Hohepa and Koro Piwiki Heke retired. My Uncle Reuben Morrison encouraged me to stand for Owhatiura South 5 Inc. to follow in the footsteps of his cousin, my Mum - who served on numerous boards until she passed in 2006. Being a small trust with just over 400 shareholders, my Uncle knew I would be supported by the CoMs team and the whanau/shareholders. I lead a very busy life, so I do my best to ensure I am present for my husband, our five children, my Dad, and my whanau. My most favourite places are seaside with my surfcaster, down south in the Bluff, alone time in my hīrere down the pā, and with those I love the most.

Julia Schuster-Rika
Ko Julia Margaret Schuster-Rika taku ingoa. I was named after my father’s two sisters, Margaret, the eldest, and Julia, the youngest. On the advice of my husband, I kept my maiden name and hyphenated it with Rika. My father was the Reverend Canon Bob Schuster and my husband is Clifford Rika. My whakapapa to our whenua comes through my father, whose grandmother was Kerera Rota (née Wihapi), he uri a Tawakerenga. Although initially hesitant to stand as a trustee for the Committee of Management of Owhatiura South 5, it was through the encouragement of my father that I agreed, as he wanted our whānau to maintain our connection to the whenua. My reluctance came from a previous experience on a trust where I believed the trustees were not working in the best interests of the shareholders and rarely communicated with them. Feeling that my time, energy and skills were being wasted, I resigned from that trust. Since being elected to OS5, I have nothing but respect for the current Committee of Management. We work together wholeheartedly in the best interests of shareholders and the Incorporation, slowly but surely building a sustainable future for OS5 and the next generations. I believe we are a strong team committed to achieving the best outcomes, and shareholders can be assured that we are working hard on their behalf. On a personal note, everything I do comes with dedication, commitment, and passion to always give my best otherwise, there is no point. These are values instilled in me by my parents and carried with me throughout my life. Cliff and I continue to be there for our four adult children, fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. To find balance and peace of mind, I enjoy long walks with my kuri, Lunar and Star. Ngā mihi nui, Julia
